Bridesmaid Dressing: 10 Ways to Reinvent the Saree

Gone are the days when a wearing a saree to the wedding meant two drapes: Seedha Palla and Ulta Palla. And maybe Mumtaz Style for the daring.Nowadays,a saree can be worn in a million different ways depending on your personal style and the type of event.Wearing your saree with a little bit of a twist is perfect for the sister/friend of the bride or even the bride herself for one of the functions.
Below are some of the drapes Krazy Kolkata Bride liked the best.Do let us know your favorite draping style?

The Cape Saree

Perhaps the easiest way to give your saree a new look is to get a smart cape stitched over it.It can brighten up a dull saree and change the look completely. Also, get a silk or woolen one done and you don't have to freeze to death at a winter wedding!

The Dhoti Saree

We have Sonam Kapoor and Anamika Khanna to thank this amazing saree draping style. This give your saree an automatic Indo-Chic look. You don't have to get a readymade one if you're adept at draping you can DIY it with this tutorial we found online!

The Saree Gown

This style is the forte of designers Gaurav Gupta,Sonakshi Raaj and Tarun Tahiliani. This is a perfect look for a cocktail party or a reception.Wear this style for an instant glam factor.I wore this style for my wedding cocktail as you can see in Bric-A-Brac.

The Saree Jumpsuit

I couldn't find too many images of this look but I am in LOVE with the concept.Combine your saree with a jumpsuit to stand out from the crowd.I'm especially crushing on the Grey Payal Singhal number below. This would be perfect for a resort wedding or a wedding brunch.

Jacket Saree

Another great look for the winter weddings.A well embroidered and cut jacket can give any saree a more formal and heavier look. Also, wear your saree with a blazer for an androgynous look to a wedding or to the office.

Saree over Lehenga

Not to be confused with a Lehenga Saree which has been done to death. These floral Chotu Sarees by Sabyasachi which came out in 2011 were the work of a genius! Once worn looks just like a Lehenga but just so much better.Chop of your old sari in half the width and wear over a skirt to get this trendy look.

Bikini Saree

The only designer I've found who do this look so far are Srivan & Naresh. With the growing popularity of beach weddings, this look is a stunner if you have the right figure. This look is subtly sexy and appropriate for a wedding.Wear with sheer/lace leggings to tone if you're not confident about pulling it off.

Belted Saree

A simple and quick way to give your saree a new look is to just put your favorite belt over it! Although, not a new concept as Kamarbandhs have been around for centuries. This gives a slightly western look to your ensemble.

Suspender Sari

A great style for the tomboyish bridesmaid. If androgyny is your style, then you will love this look.Wear with sneakers to give your saree a cool hip-hop makeover.

Leggings Sari

You can easily do this style with a long dupatta or a length of fabric at home.Easier to drape than a saree and so much more comfortable.Get this look with this tutorial we found online.
